We get this question every so often. You have had a pager phone number for years and so many people have it, you don't want to give it up, but you really don't have a need for a pager. You may have even visited your local cell phone store or called the cellular carrier directly and asked them to port your pager phone number over to your cell phone.

The reps may have even told you...Sure, we can do that, just get your paging company to release your pager phone number or have them provide the password and we can port the pager number over.

Unfortunately, many cellular phone reps are not aware that this is not possible. Pager phone numbers are not covered under the phone number transportability rules set by the FCC.

Occasionally, we have customers become adamant that this can be done because the rep at the cellular carrier said it could be done... To further verify that our information is correct, we suggest checking the FCC's link regarding this subject:  https://www.fcc.gov/general/wireless-local-number-portability-wlnp#paging

Pager phone numbers are managed by the paging carriers and are not able to be moved to other types of phone systems regardless if it's cellular or landline.  In the reverse, cellular and landline numbers cannot be transferred to pagers however, cellular and landline numbers can be call forwarded to pagers or moved to a virtual phone service provider that offers call forwarding.
