In light of the pager explosions in Lebanon, are pagers in the USA safe?
The spotlight is on pagers due to the simultaneous pager explosions in Lebanon on September 17, 2024. Our phones, emails and texts lit up at our offices that day from journalists worldwide.
What we know...
Gold Apollo located in Taiwan is the manufacturer of the Apollo pagers that we offer at pagersdirect.net, however they are not the manufacturer of the AR-924 pager which is the pager that was used in Lebanon. The AR-924 pager was never exported to the USA and has a rechargeable battery where the Apollo pagers that we offer, use a disposable AAA or AA alkaline battery.
The AR-924 pager involved in the explosions was a model offered by a 3rd party company that was using the Apollo Brand Name and Logo under license. It is not yet clear which manufacturer produced the AR-924 pagers.
Pagers in general are a safe product. In fact, our customers who are concerned about potentially harmful cellphone radiation as well as privacy, prefer to use pagers as their main source of contact and then use their cell phone via speakerphone if needed. The healthcare industry has been using pagers for decades without incident. Many of our clients rely on pagers for their occupation, security and safety. Urgent critical messaging has been a hallmark of pagers and are the reason millions are still in use within the United States.
Just like any other product, if a 3rd party tampers with them, they can be used for nefarious purposes. However, from our experience, Gold Apollo is a reputable manufacturer and their USA distribution arm is as well.
